Why Koreans are better at math than Americans when they are young? It is not because Koreans are smarter or their educational system is better but because they have more efficient language system on number. Every number corresponding to 0-9 in Korean is only 1 syllable, while 1-3 syllables in English. This is closely related with how well and early children can recite multiplication table that every Korean memorizes much earlier and better than any other people in the world. For example, 2 x 2 = 4 needs 8 syllables in English(two times two is four) but needs only 4 syllables in Korean(yi yi nun sa) and 9 x 9 = 81 needs 13 syllables in English(nine times nine is eightyone) but only 5 syllables in Korean(gu gu pal sib il). 5 syllables is the longest one of multiplication table in Korean. So it is a matter of course that Koreans should learn it with far more ease. This seems to be a small difference but in fact makes a huge difference when learning arithmetic.

Americans should import gu-gu-dan song and make use of abbreviation like 5 x 5 = 25 to fa fa twenty fa, which will lead their children to a better achievement in mathematics.
