GamSooSeong

Gag Concert is the most famous comedy TV show in Korea. It features a variety of funny segments among which I like GamSooSeong very much. GamSooSeong is used as name of imaginary castle in Chosun Dynasty because the word, Seong, means a castle in Korean. But it can be read in either way there as GamSooSeong is also a word that is usually taken as impressibility in Korean.

About the background of the play, it describes the situation when the king of Chosun dynasty was besieged by Qing forces in the war between Chosun and Qing in 17th century.

There are six main roles in the play - king, servant, advisor, two generals, POW and specially invited guest is sometimes added as an assistant to POW.

Every role in the play is very sensitive and emotionally vulnerable. King's men such as advisor, servant, generals get hurt by King's rude and aggressive remarks but they can not complain as much as they feel. They can only keep whining and then King says sorry and tries to appease them.

The key code of humor in the play is unbecoming impressibility of the roles and the carthartic element is the sacarsm against spoiled King and King's apology about his offensiveness.
